space The $4 Billion salary increase

AUD $100
The Australian Education Union (AEU) commissioned study is trying to push for a proposed large salary toping over $100,000 for a select group of teachers. Teachers that meet the criteria would be labeled an "accomplished teacher" and would be rewarded with a salary of at least $100,000 a year.

The AEU President Angelo Gavrielatos is stating that this new program would attract and incentives quality teaching within the classrooms. The Government is in agreement with the proposal of increasing salaries of those teachers who have done an excellent job over the years. Currently the highest paid teacher can earn around $70,000. The new proposal calls for top tier teachers to be paid up to $130,000 a year. If this happens it will cost an estimated $4 billion to implement a top tier pay system. One suggestion the Council has would be to take a closer look at what countries like the United Kingdom and the US are doing. Governments have teamed up with charities and businesses to attract and lure in the highest educated graduates into teaching.

There should be a few different incentive programs for teachers who have gone above and beyond their call of duty though out the years of teaching. However a pay increase from $70,000 to $130,000 seems a little high and a 4 billion a year incentive might not be realistic. The other thing to think about is the criteria and process of a teacher making it into the top tier group. Will it be the numbers of years the teacher has taught? Will it come from a number of evaluations from the head principle of each school? How will they compare a teacher who teachers in rough schools compared to a wealthy school and neiborhood where the students might act and behave in different manners?

If this $4 billion proposal does not pass we will be looking for other kinds of incentive program for quality teachers in the near future. One fair option would be to have bonus incentives for each school. The teachers who stands out the most at there school would receive a fair $10,000 pay increase.
